The Type 2 Diabetes Epidemic – Stop the Madness

While the statistics about the rise of childhood diabetes are alarming, there are steps you can take to reduce your child’s chance of developing the disease. Below we’ll discuss some of the reasons for diabetes and what you can do to prevent it within your family.

There are some shocking statistics about our children’s health that you must know now in order to literally save their lives.

Prescription drug use in American kids rose by 5% in 2009, which is the highest of any other single demographic group, and nearly 4 times higher than the overall population.  More than one in four children are now taking at least one prescription medication to treat a chronic medical condition.  A chronic medical condition means that they’ll likely be taking the pill for the REST of their lives.  The number of our children 19 and younger using type 2 diabetes medications has risen by more than 150% in the last 9 years, with adolescent girls increasing by 200%!

Type 2 diabetes occurs when the cells ignore the insulin being produced by the body and hence, the body becomes insulin resistant. This type of diabetes is the acquired or lifestyle induced condition – which means you get it by what you’re doing or not doing.

What we’re doing is growing up and continuing into adulthood on a diet based largely on carbohydrates – grains, refined grains, sugars, and sugar based additives.  This is aggravated by what we’re not doing – which is moving.

While our bodies are born with the ability to process carbohydrates, there’s only so much it can take.  Kids used to get away with sugar a bit more in the past because you can burn a whole lot of it by being active 12-16 hours a day like kids were in the past.  Now, with the onslaught of refined foods, the addition of hundreds of sugar-based additives, and hours of movement slashed by the computer age – we’ve got a full-blown real epidemic on our hands.

Because changing lifestyle has seemed impossible, people haven’t changed much despite the crisis.  Of course our medical system is prone to create drug and surgical solutions – that in the case of a lifestyle condition can seem preposterous.  For example, research from Pittsburgh suggests that brain surgery may decrease the onset and progression of type 2 diabetes.

Whoa. Wait. Brain surgery? Surgery on our brains?  For a disease that occurs because of what we choose to eat or feed our kids?

We can stop this madness right now and change the future for our children and believe it or not – make your life easier (not harder) to live than it is right now.  The solutions are as simple as getting involved in a webinar series you can do in the comfort of your own home, getting the Maximized Living Plans book from your ML doctor or on our site, and going to your ML doctor’s Makeover or monthly classes.
These solutions are inexpensive, easy to apply, kid and busy family friendly, and don’t involve operating on yours or your children’s brains.  Seems like a “no-brainer” doesn’t it?

While every problem has unique needs, the ML Principle is the same when it comes to all conditions:

STEP 1: Build health.  If you work towards getting the body well and working right again, all conditions improve or are eliminated.

STEP 2: Look at causes.  Whether it’s diabetes, asthma, ADD/ADHC, chronic infections, pain, fatigue, cancer, or Alzheimer’s – there’s an underlying reason.

Conditions are rarely there as simply a result of genetics or bad luck.  Might be easy to call it that – but just not true.
